“Lunar Flow”2012254mm x 203mmAcrylic and studs on canvas boardThis painting was inspired by my interest in other cultures and ancient civilizations, in particular the Aztecs, and their fascination with both the sun and the moon. Adopting geometric symbolism, the downward pointing triangle represents lunar energy, creativity and flow and, along with the pyramid shape of the studs, this mirrors the Pyramid of the Moon at Teotihuacan, a pre-Hispanic site in Mexico. Some have called this structure Tenan, which in Nahuatl, means “mother or protective stone.” Constructed between 200 and 450 AD, there is a platform atop the pyramid which was used to conduct ceremonies in honor of the Great Goddess of Teotihuacan, the goddess of water, fertility, the earth, and even creation itself.

“Solar Ascension”2012254mm x 203mmAcrylic and studs on canvas boardThis painting was inspired by my interest in other cultures and ancient civilizations, in particular the Aztecs, and their fascination with both the sun and the moon. Adopting geometric symbolism, the triangle represents solar energy, harmony and ascension and, along with the pyramid shape of the studs, this mirrors the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan. This pre-Hispanic site in Mexico is still visited by thousand of people every year during the Spring Equinox where the defining ritual is to stand at the top of the pyramid, with arms outstretched facing the sun in the morning on the eastern horizon. Many come because they believe they are following in the footsteps of their ancestors, in asking the gods for energy and health on this day. At the point of the equinox man is at a unique place in the cosmos, when portals of energy open.
